Bruce C:_ You may find that the HP DeskJet F2179 does all you can ask for and the ink cartridges are less expensive than Cannon - It pays to shop around and consider the ink costs with any printer.
I got mine from Aust Post on sale ($23.49) about 12 months ago and it does photo copy, scan, both in balck & white or colour, and general website printing.
I suggest that you stick with the makers ink products to save trouble. The REFILL ink tanks always present problems and the ink fades after a short time.
Keith.

buying goods online

Bruce, not the complete reason for the price disparities, but the cartridges supplied with the equipment often have less than half the capacity of the more expensive replacement cartridges.
It's a bit like mobile phones; they almost give them away because their profit comes from selling you the contract, and with computer peripherals, their profit comes from selling the consumables.

Trev,

My purchase today wasn't on-line, but is interesting in it's own way.

My Canon printer which I bought for about $150 a few years ago, finally gave up the ghost. I bought a replacement (combined scanner, photocopier, MP 282) from Office Works today for $38.

Interestingly ink cartridges, which are sold by OW for $44) were inside. This meant, in effect, Canon paid me to buy their printer...I guess there's a fair bit of a money in on-going sales of cartridges and associated photo paper, software etc.

Anyway, for now I'm happy with the deal (though I suspect that I've been manipulated by 'invisible' forces).

Purchasing items on line

Post  Trev on Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:58 am

Recently I bought a 4.3m garden green house on line from a firm called "factory fast" The 2 packages finally arrived after a few minor tracking problems and when I unpacked it to check the items there was no assembly or parts book to go by.
I sent numerous fault ticket e-mails - no answer except to say they had received it and gave me a number each time plus i managed to get a phone number, again no answer. I even contacted Bob Ferrari to see if he knew of them but he to came back with not so good news. And so I had this $1100.00 item all unpacked but nowhere to go.

I did a bit of puter surfing yesterday and found an exact replica of what I had with another company in Vic known as www.directbuy.com.au

I contacted them by e-mail yesterday with my problem and without any fuss, discussion or anything I received the assembly instructions and parts list this morning, which I have down loaded. I might add they didn't have to as I wasn't a customer, BUT THEY DID.cheers

I just wanted to let all know that I won,t be using Factory Fast ever again because their total lack of follow up & customer service. Once bitten, twice shy
